Shot these images a few weekends ago on the way to Sierras for a rock climbing trip we planned. I have never really taken many Death Valley photos, so this was an awesome way for me to get some experience in Death Valley, but also with long exposures and shooting at night. I have to admit, I really hate using a tri pod and I’m actually pretty bad at it. My photography style encourages me to be really light on gear and moveable so I hardly ever use a tri pod unless I’m doing a studio shoot or something like this!
We had a bit of fun experimenting with with moving around while the camera was still exposing the image as well! That’s what you see in the feature image. That is one 30 second exposure and we just held out positions for about 15 seconds each before moving into the next position.
One of the really neat things about this area is that there are hardly any cars going through here, especially after dark. I think we saw a total of 3 while we were on certain stretches of the roads. It would definitely not be a place you’d want your car to break down!
